Lesson Plan Spotlight:
I've seen a lot of great lesson plans this week and I'd like to highlight this amazing work!  This week, the spotlight is on Emily Ianiro! Emily has done a great job including tiered differentiation in her lesson plans.  Do you notice that she is very specific as to what her students will be doing during their small group instruction?

IXL Game

Activity:
T: Subtraction Word Problems (ex. John has 7 beads. He spills 2 on the ground. How many beads are left? / Ten birds sit in the tree. 3 birds fly away. How many remain in the tree?
Differentiation :
L/M Groups: Find difference only.
H Group: Use problems with missing #’s - Jack has 6 balloons. Some end up popping! How many balloons does Jack have left over?

Activity:
Decomposing #’s Activity –
S will see a whole number and figure out how if you take a chunk away, you’re left with the remainder. Then, show them how if you reverse it & add the chunks together you’ll get the total again! “Fact Families” S can use dice for this game to find their initial number to take away from.
Differentiation :
L/M Groups: Use 1 die
H Group: Use 2 or more dice for bigger numbers (They’ll need a blank # line to represent their answer on)
I:
Subtraction Action Activity
EXTRA→* Word Problem Template (Subtract) Summary: Snowball Fight (Tammy has 10 cats. Three of her cats run away. How many cats are left?)

What's the difference between projects and Project Based Learning (PBL):

Cooperative Learning Strategies:Here are some ideas for incorporating more cooperative learning in your classroom.
  • Expert Learners
  • Q and A Match Up
  • Circle Chats
  • Four Corners
  • The Fish Bowl
 Get Techknow:
  • 8 ways teachers can talk less and get kids talking more
  • Student Engagement
  • Increase higher order comprehension with Socratic Seminar
  • Use Tag My Doc to put QR codes on the paper documents you distribute in your classroom. Then students can scan them to save them to their phones and tablets thereby eliminating the need for you to give out extra copies when if your students lose the paper documents you gave them.
Have a great week!
